MARK ROGERSON GLASS, 2013

SBS Television commissioned Mark Rogerson Glass to create commemorative glass Coolamons to mark the launch of National Indigenous Television station (NITV). A Coolamon is an Aboriginal carrying bowl carved from a tree, so Mark used kiln formed glass with a textured native Australian fauna design to reimagine the traditional ceremonial vessel. These were gifted to the Australian Government at the official launch ceremony at Uluru

Two vessels are now housed in Canberra, in the offices of the Minster for Broadband, Digital Communications (Senator Steven Conroy) and Minster for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (Jenny Macklin).
