SAPER GLASS, 2010

This was a very challenging project, pushing the boundaries of 21st century glass design. In this mock-up you can see the detailed techniques needed to manufacture such a large-scale job – including deep sandblasted text on a blue laminate glass with LED inserts inside the panel.

The artwork features the constellation of stars on the day ruler Sheihk Khalifa Bin Zayed al Nayhen was born. Other sections show sandblasted abstract palm trees using Arabic shapes to recreate the image. The detailed text is both in Arabic and English, some of which has been inlaid with gold leaf to enhance the design.
